Ms. Rios' Jr High English Class

Class overview

Welcome to Ms. Rios' English class! In this class, we will explore our interests, cultures, and personal development through units created to help you understand the importance and influence of literacy and language in the "real-world".

Don't be misguided. English class does not necessarily mean we are learning how to read and write in English, though you will have many opportunities to do so. This class is meant to help us all learn how knowing how to read, write, speak, AND listen can change our worlds, or even the world, regardless of the language.

This class focuses on strengthening the four language competencies: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Throughout the year, you will have a variety of opportunities to practice and demonstrate these skills and their value in and out of the classroom.

Join me on this journey to understanding why your words matter!

About me

I am a mother and pet owner who loves to learn something new everyday. I believe that education should center around making us all better humans with the skills and competencies needed to make the world a better place. My philosophy of teaching and learning is that our education should support our individual goals and needs to be successful in our own ways. Understanding how to read, write, speak, and listen are foundational skills necessary to successfully function and interact within our society. My goal is help you understand the value of literacy and language and how these skills will be useful in our everyday lives.

A couple of my favorite focus playlists:

"All I need is a sheet of paper and something to write with, and then I can turn the world upside down." -Friedrich Nietzsche
